Food Security
Are you looking for a way to reduce food waste and save money?
With prices soaring and budgets stretched, consumers are turning increasingly to so-called imperfect food to save on produce that a fresh crop of online grocers says is just as tasty — if a little gnarled.
Odd Bunch is now available in Calgary.
The Odd Bunch | Save up to 50% on your groceries!
‘Odd Bunch’ opened its doors in 2022 in Ontario with the idea of reducing the amount of food that finds its way to a landfill. Odd Bunch partners with Canadian farms and distributors to rescue surplus and “imperfect” produce.
Billions of pounds of Canadian produce go to waste every year, much of it because it fails to live up to the strict cosmetic criteria adhered to by the retail industry. Grocery stores have strict cosmetic standards and anything that looks or feels a little different is rejected or dumped. The food that is gathered and sold to Odd Bunch was rejected for retail sale, but that doesn’t mean it is an inferior product. With Odd Bunch, you can choose from 7 preset box types. As the produce market is volatile, selections vary week to week. The boxes come in two different sizes offering a variety of fruit and vegetables.
Information is updated on the website and socials every Monday at approximately 2:00pm.
