Highlights

Picture Retakes are Wednesday October 30, 2024.  This week marks two important celebrations in student cultures in our school: Diwali and Halloween. Please see an important note about Halloween below.

For our families celebrating Diwali, may this Diwali be a fresh start to a year filled with new hope and success. Wishing you a prosperous Diwali!

School Council Treasurer Needed

We have had some amazing volunteers step up to chair and treasure our school council for many years. Our current treasurer has given his time for most of his children’s school years. He will be leaving us this year, as his son moves to junior high school, and we are in high need of a new treasurer.

Brian has created a simple system for managing the finances and would be willing to pass his knowledge on as this transition happens. If you would be willing to take on this role, please reach out to Ms. Doyle as soon as possible (lmdoyle@cbe.ab.ca).

Picture Retake Day

Picture Retake Day is Wednesday, October 30 for students who - need a retake (please notify your child’s teacher), were absent on Picture Day September 26, who are new to the school or who are in the Cornerstone Kindergarten Apple group.

Important Message About Halloween

It is that time of year when Halloween is celebrated by some families within our school community and some will choose to wear their Halloween costumes on Thursday, Oct. 31. There will also be many families and their children who will be choosing not to participate in Halloween. We want all children to feel comfortable in their celebrations and for this reason, encourage students to share their joy with others, if they want to.

Please take a moment to review our guidelines on dress code and sharing candy.

Family Choice in Children's Clothing

All families choose how their children dress for school throughout the school year, and this is true of Halloween as well.  As families consider clothing choices for their children on Oct. 31, I would like to ask parents and guardians to review the following considerations which are in alignment with the CBE Administrative Regulation on the Standards of Dress and Grooming.

  • ensure children are wearing clothing that is safe to be worn during physical activities, especially daily physical activity and sports.
  • layer clothing appropriate for the weather conditions and indoor activities to prevent overheating or getting too cold.
  • wearing suitable footwear and accessories as appropriate for all curricular activities.
  • avoiding any clothing that indicates membership in unauthorized student groups or gangs or displays profanity.
  • unnecessary face coverings that prevent students from having a clear line of sight should not be worn.

As always, clothing should remain in alignment with our student code of conduct and maintain a welcoming, caring, safe, and respectful learning and work environment. I encourage parents and guardians to speak with their children about the importance of respecting other students’ clothing choices.

Candy at School

While children may be excited to bring and share candy that is often associated with Halloween, we ask that families refrain from sending shared items. We continue to be an allergy-aware school, with many allergies present in our students, and students will not be allowed to share these with others.

Thank you for your continued support as we build an inclusive learning environment for all, where all students feel safe, respected, cared for, and welcomed.
