Welcome Back CN Gunn Families!

We are excited to welcome students and families back into our classrooms and school community. This email will give you some important information about our starting days here at Catherine Nichols Gunn.  


Registration  

If your family has moved and your children are not attending Catherine Nichols Gunn for this school year, please respond to this email to let us know who your children are and where they are planning to attend school for the coming year.  

If you receive this email, your child(ren) are registered with us for the 2025-2026 school year. If you believe you should be registered somewhere else, please check your MyCBE account as you might have some required documentation or other questions to answer.  

 

First Days of School  

Our school hours this year are: 

  • First Bell: 8:18 am 
  • Classes begin 8:20 am 
  • K-2 Lunch Hour 11:10 am-11:53 am 
  • Grades 3-6 Lunch Hour 12:05 pm- 12:58 pm 

Please ensure your children arrive at the school by 8:15 am to have time to get into the school when the bell rings.  

Students in Grades 1-6 will have full days and a regular schedule starting on Tuesday. Kindergarten students will be following a staggered entry. If you have not received an email with the details yet, information about our staggered entry can be found here: Kindergarten at CNGunn 

 

Breakfast Club

Breakfast Club will be continuing this year, but with a few changes.

  • Students can enter through the main doors from 7:50 am- 8:05 am. 
  • From 8:05 am- 8:15 am they enter through doors 1 and 3. A supervisor is there to let them in. 
  • Hot breakfast/ cereal shuts down at 8:15, and after this, students will bring items with them to class. 
  • Our breakfast club will happen in outr staff room for this year, to make space for all of the children in the other classroom.

Students arriving on buses should go to their classrooms first for attendance and will have an opportunity to access breakfast after attendance has been taken.  

 

School Supplies 

All school supplies are provided as part of school supply fees, so there is no need to buy paper, pencils, etc. However, the following items should be provided by families:  

 

  • Backpack with your child’s name written inside in black sharpie or otherwise labelled.  
  • Lunch bag  
  • Water Bottle (students will be asked to have their water bottles in class and not going to the water fountain) 

 

PLEASE LABEL ITEMS (with Sharpie) 

Many children have the same backpacks, jackets, shoes, and we really want to make sure if they lose an item, we can get it back to them.  

Homeroom 

Students should be hearing from their homeroom teachers today to welcome you to their classes, if you missed the call, there will likely be an email as well. Much time and effort are given to ensure class balance including student complex needs, student friendships, and class dynamics. To avoid disrupting a carefully crafted class composition we do not change student homerooms.  

This year we are welcoming three new teachers:  

  • Ms. Alyssa Helfrich will be joining Grade 1-2  
  • Ms. Jennifer Elmore will be joining our grade 5-6 team.  
  • Mr. Jeff Rosewarn will be joining our grade 5-6 team.
