As a school community, we would like to welcome Melissa Forsyth as our new school principal beginning in the 2026- 2027 school year. As Melissa steps into her new role, she has asked that we share the following letter to our community.

Dear Catherine Nichols Gunn Families,

It is with great excitement and gratitude that I introduce myself as the new Principal of Catherine Nichols Gunn School. I am honoured to join this vibrant school community and look forward to getting to know the students, staff, and families who make this school such a special place.

My name is Melissa Forsyth, and I have had the privilege of working with the Calgary Board of Education for more than 20 years in a variety of roles, ranging from classroom teacher to school administration. Most recently, I served as Assistant Principal at Kenneth D. Taylor School for the past 3 years and before that I was the Assistant Principal at Dalhousie School for 5 years. Throughout my career, I have remained deeply committed to ensuring that every student experiences success and has opportunities to engage in meaningful, authentic, and engaging learning experiences.

I believe that schools are strongest when students, families, and staff work together to create a community where every child feels welcomed, valued, supported, and inspired to reach their full potential. I am excited to become part of a learning community where educators are dedicated to creating the best possible environments and experiences for students so they can thrive academically, socially, and emotionally.

Building strong relationships is at the heart of my work as an educator. I value open communication, collaboration, and creating connections with students, staff, and families. I look forward to listening, learning, and partnering with you as we continue to build on the strengths of Catherine Nichols Gunn School and support all students in achieving success.

A little about me personally, I enjoy spending my free time walking in nature, being near the water, and making memories with my husband and our two daughters. These moments remind me of the importance of connection, balance, and community; values I also bring to my work in education.

As we prepare for the upcoming school year, I am excited for the opportunity to meet each of you and become part of the Catherine Nichols Gunn community. Thank you for welcoming me into your school, and I look forward to working together.

Warm regards,

Melissa Forsyth
